not quite lectio

June 30, 2011 Leave a comment

I’m a big fan of lectio divina.  I love hearing the Word spoken aloud and just sitting and meditating on a verse or two.  You can read more about lectio here if you’re curious about it.  Richard Foster’s book Celebrating Discipline also does a really good job on this and a whole bunch of other spiritual practices.

But what I enjoy more than lectio is listening to the bible like an audio book.  Read more…

a letter from the Father

June 29, 2011 2 comments

This morning during my private prayer time I felt the Father really speaking into me and wanted to share it with everyone.  The exercise is not that different from journalism in which you send out a prayer or a question and then write the response God puts on your heart.

Dear Sage,

Stop. Listen.  Don’t think, don’t go back over this after you’ve read it looking for hidden messages and secret instruction.  Right now all I’m asking you to do is accept and receive these words.  I know that’s hard for you but I also know you can do it.  Trust me on this one, I really know what I’m talking about. #JesusRevolution – blessing part 2

June 28, 2011 2 comments

When I hear people talk about revolution, obedience isn’t usually anywhere on the list.  In fact most of the time, the people who talk about revolution are only talking about DISobedience; there is a desire to throw away the restraints that the institutions of society have placed on us not conform to them.

But conformity and obedience are not necessarily the same thing.  Maybe that’s just the way that I tend to think of it, but at the end of the day I classify conformity as falling in with the world and obedience as falling in line with God. Read more…

#JesusRevolution – blessing

June 27, 2011 Leave a comment

Yesterday, the sermon I heard started off by saying “blessing is the most boring thing ever.” That upset me a little bit, not going to lie.  I was like “what? Blessing is awesome!  I want blessing, blessing makes the world go round!”

But then I was convicted because I didn’t mean “blessing makes the world go ’round.”  Not even close.  You see I associate blessing with provision and provision means money of course.  Oh, how many years have I spent running from the western mindset and prejudices only have them spring upon me when I least expected?  I have always associated blessing with material and tangible wealth.  I measured it with success or influence or something along those lines. Party out loud

June 24, 2011 3 comments

I’m probably going to spend the next several days partying because a good friend of mine decided to put away all the hold up and hesitations and go all-in for Christ.  :-)   So instead of a long involved post about it, I’m going to leave you with a verse and a music video and wish you a good weekend.

“What man among you, who has 100 sheep and loses one of them, does not leave the 99 in the open field and go after the lost one until he finds it?  When he has found it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders,  and coming home, he calls his friends and neighbors together, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my lost sheep!’ I tell you, in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous people who don’t need repentance.  Luke 15:4-7
